Romo robot

Ok so I think I just got to review the most interesting device. I was sent the ROMO by Romotive to facilitate this review (sponsored). When I read about this little rolling robot that is controlled by your iPhone or iDevice, I saw that it followed you around and stuff. But I really didn’t understand how cool this gadget is.

The ROMO is for kids of all ages, even grown adult kids like myself and you learn about computer programming techniques, remotely control your robot and he also becomes your little friend.

I know, it all sounds so weird. I received my ROMO from Romotive and unboxed him. Following the quick start guide I immediately popped my iPhone 5s into the doc on the top of the ROMO. I got a quick message telling me to download the app, but then I remembered that I needed to charge my iPhone. So I took it back out and charged it. While charging I went ahead and downloaded the app, then docked my iPhone back onto the ROMO when I was done charging. That’s when the little robot woke up! Oh my!

He scared me! He started making little noises like he was talking while moving back and forth. He gave me a few brief instructions like telling him my name and asking me to name him. Then he wanted me to start completing missions. The missions are designed for you to teach your ROMO robot through programming lessons. New levels are unlocked as you play.

You can also control your ROMO robot remotely with other iOS devices or with a computer using the Google Chrome browser. I love that I can teach my ROMO to follow me around the house and he plays along well with animals.

I really love the concept of this “toy”. The ROMO is a perfect educational gift and the most creative toy I’ve seen in a very long time. Tevin (14 yrs) has grown out your traditional toys and he is at that age that he wants electronics but I don’t want to spend the money if something happens to them. The Romo is still in that toy category, but gives the opportunity to give my son a cool gadget at the same time he has the opportunity to learn technical skills. I love the new addition to our household.

You can purchase the ROMO at Brookstone for $149.99 and it works with all iOS devices. YOu can also follow Romotive on Facebook and Twitter.  Check out Romotive on YouTube and Vimeo for fun videos.
